Private Pilot Licence

​

The EASA PPL is recognised the world over and entitles the pilot to enter European airspace.


At a glance:

​

  • Covers nearly all single engine piston aircraft. Turbine aircraft require differences training.

  • Minimum age for licence issue is 17 years. Minimum age for first solo is 16 years.

  • Minimum visibility condition for flying is 5 kilometres.

  • You can fly with up to three passengers in an aircraft.

  • Allows the licence holder to undertake additional training for tail wheel aircraft and aircraft with supercharged engines, variable pitch propellers, retractable undercarriage, pressurised cabins and cruise exceeding 140 knots. Night and instrument ratings can also be added.

  • Maintained through a minimum of 12 hours flying and 1 hour flying with an instructor in 24 months.

  • Class two aviation medical required (cost is around £210).

  • Recognised worldwide and allows flights into European airspace.

  • First step on modular route to achieving a Commercial Pilot’s Licence.

Theoretical part consists of 173 hours of PPL theory

Flight training consists of 47 hours flown under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) on a single-engine aircraft.

Pre-Course Requirements

  • Recommended to have a Class 2 medical before starting

  • Minimum age to start the course 14 years

  • Minimum age to fly solo 16 years

  • Minimum age for licence issue 17 years
