Private Pilot Licence (PPL)

Course length

3 - 12 months depending on trainee availability.

Course Content

Flight Training for the PPL with PAFT and Phoenix Aviation

PAFT works with its partner Phoenix Aviation to offer PPL training.

To be awarded a PPL you will need:

45 hours of flight instruction in aeroplanes, consisting of:

(a) a minimum of 25 hours of dual flight instruction (b) a minimum of 10 hours of supervised solo flying

(c) A minimum of 5 hours of solo cross-country flight time with at least 1 cross-country flight of at least 270 km (150 NM), during which full stop landings at 2 aerodromes different from the aerodrome of departure must be made

 

and..

(d) A Class 1 medical before you begin training, when your eventual aim is a CPL.

(e) A Class 2 medical soon after you begin training, when your aim is a PPL.

(f) Pass a flight test of your handling and navigation skills.

GROUND TRAINING

PPL theory studies cover the following subjects and each has a short exam:

· Air Law

· Operational Procedures

· Aircraft General Knowledge

· Flight Performance and Planning

· Human Performance

· Meteorology

· Navigation

· Principles of Flight

· Aircraft General Knowledge

· Study materials and other flight equipment can be purchased at Phoenix Aviation.

FAQ’S

· PPL weather limits are ‘in sight of the surface, clear of cloud and with 1.5 km visibility outside controlled airspace or 5 km visibility in Class C, D and E airspace.’

· Minimum age to start the course is 14 years.

· Minimum age to fly solo 16 years.

· Minimum age for licence issue 17 years.
